I think because of the dental work that I had done as a kid and experiences that I had that were probably far from ideal, I did have a desire to be able to help other people to have better experiences at the dentist.
And so, particularly the office that I’m at now focuses on giving people, it’s Glendale Gentle Dentistry, so, good experiences, allowing them to feel comfortable while they’re at the dentist. A lot of the issues that you deal with in a dental office in dentistry is because people don’t come back.
We can give them a good experience, help them to know that they’re gonna feel comfortable every time they come in, they’re gonna be listened to, they’re gonna be taken care of, then, hopefully, they’ll come back a lot more frequently, and, hopefully, before those small problems turn into big problems.
It’s cool to see that, you know, people can come in, in lots of pain, with just all sorts of things that are going on and feeling confident that as we go through the protocols that we use, that we can confidently take care of whatever the need is that they have, and we can help them to walk out of that office with, you know, whatever infection needs to be fixed taken care of, whatever pain that was causing them to, you know, be removed.
And so, there’s a couple of patients that we’ve had come in the first time I saw them, you know, and I’ve asked them to smile or, you know, open their mouth, they hesitate, they tell me they don’t want to, because of how embarrassed they feel. And it’s awesome to be able to do the dental work that’s needed, or even some of the, like, cosmetic aesthetic work for them, and to have them, you know, finally feel confident with smiling, and feel comfortable with coming to the dentist, and, you know, show me what’s going on.
Like, we don’t judge people for what condition their teeth are in or how they look. We’re here to help them to whatever goal they wanna reach. And so, you know, we are always happy to see anyone in any condition they come in.
So, I did dental school at The Ohio State University. Before that, I went to Brigham Young University for my undergraduate. I feel like I got a lot of clinical experience more than most dental students while I was in school because of what’s called the Ohio Project. Yeah. And it’s just a program that allows dental students to go out to do externships at dental offices across Ohio, just different offices that need more emergency treatment.
And so, since then, I’ve worked at a few different offices. One of them was definitely an area where a lot of the treatment was needed was emergency treatment, root canals, extractions. I was able to gain a lot of experience with that type of treatment in that office. I’ve taken some continuing education courses, quite a few for endodontics, for root canals, for placing implants, for bone grafts. So, we’re doing quite a few of those in the office currently. And then probably in the next few months, we’ll be taking some courses for conscious sedation, and we’ll be adding that to our practice as well.
